Louis-Victor Flamand-Grétry — The Hermitage of JJ Rousseau, poem with historical figures and notes — 9 lithographed plates out of text — period binding signed — at the hermitage — 1820 .

Montmorency [Paris], at the hermitage, 1820. In-8° (12.5 x 20.5 cm.). VIII + 284 pp. + 9 plates out of text including 3 folding ones. Half dark green glazed calfskin binding tending to black signed on the foot Germain-Simier. Smooth back. Title and gilt fillets. Corners, caps and joints rubbed. Small knocks on the vocals. Some light foxing (see photos above).

Very rare work consisting of a biographical poem in 8 songs by the nephew by marriage of the composer André Grétry and describing the stay of Rousseau and Grétry at the Hermitage. An imposing set of notes at the end of each canto, sometimes twenty pages long, point to the historical details and the documents that fueled the inspiration of the poet who intended that his work could also serve as a guide for the many visitors to this residence. The text is also illustrated with portraits of Rousseau and Grétry and views of the building and monuments and accompanied by facsimiles and a fold-out plan. All in a very elegant Simier binding.

Weight: 0.400 kg.
