Poitiers, Western General Printing Office/ Blais, Roy & Cie, 1886. IN-8° (17 x 23 cm.). 2 x 13 pp . First editions on watermarked laid paper. Brown half-shagreen binding . Back to nerves (insulated). Gold title. Corners rubbed. Cover preserved (it includes both copies). Proof of unnumbered print. Edition with all untrimmed margins. Headbands and tailpieces. The 2nd copy, in black, uncut. Interior good. Slight foxing (see photos above).

Romantic poem describing the ruins of a medieval castle, evoking its prestigious past in parallel with its present state.
Edition limited to 50 copies. We owe Mr. Léher a work published the previous year: 'La philosophie de Victor Hugo'. The Maxime Ridouard whose etchings are announced (a priori, the headbands and tailpieces) is a French artist born in 1865 who abandoned engraving to embark on politics (radical socialist). He was deputy for Vienne from 1898 to 1910.
