Paris, Dondey-dupré father & son, 1828. Small in-12 (9 x 14 cm.). Frontispiece engraved by Pireas (Faust signing the pact with Mephistopheles) + XII (Observations) + 312 pp . Original edition of the translation. Period binding in Havana half-sheepskin in poor condition. Smooth spine adorned with torn and glued gilt threads . Gold title. Split jaws. Leveled caps. Very rubbed together. First flat shaky. A few dog-eared pages. One page printed slightly slanted. The point of the corner of the pp is missing. 221,222 (does not affect text). A few creases. Large wetting affecting the lower half of the whole book. Foxing (see photos above).

Extremely rare 1st edition of this French translation, the third of this work originally published in German in 1808 , made during Goethe's lifetime. The second part (Faust II) will be published posthumously in 1832. Covers not preserved.
