Paris, Didot the Younger & Mequignon, 1787-88-89. 5 volumes in-12 (10 x 17 cm.). Original edition for Paul & Virginie (volume 4) & Vœux d'un solitaire (volume 5). Frontispiece + XXIV + 410 pp. + 1 pl. folding ht; 510 p. + 3 pl. ht foldouts; 492 p. + 2ff. ; LXXXVIII + 426 pp. + 2ff. & XXII + 218 pp. Period binding full speckled calfskin. Back to nerves. Boxes decorated with gilding with a floral motif (volume five brought back with slight differences). Parts of title in Havana morocco. Golden titles. All edges marbled. Golden roulette on the songs (net on volume 5). Cover of volume 5 damaged. Corners rubbed. Slight scuffs. Ex-libris on the inside cover of each volume. Wet ex-libris stamp placed in the margin of one of the first 50 pages in each volume (1 stamp per volume). Very fresh interior (see photos above).

Beautiful set bringing together the "Studies on nature" in their third edition - the first, in three volumes dates from 1781 and was reprinted in 178. It is here increased by the original editions of 'Paul & Virginie' - which will not appear in a separate volume only the following year (1789) — and "Veux d'un solitaire" .
